Water is life for all living beings. Be it plants or animals, hygienic water is essential for survival. But, obtaining it from every source is not safe for consumption.

A method of purification in which the contaminants are actually removed is known as filtration. It has a benefit of giving instant access to drinking water without experiencing an unpleasant taste. The major weakness of filtration is that it can’t filter viruses. Also, it is expensive and even a micro-crack in the medium allows a passage of unfiltered water. So, after filtration, it is always suggested to disinfect by using chemicals or ultraviolet light.

Chemical treatment is one of the most important purification methods in which it is purified by using chemical halogens. Chlorine and iodine are most widely used chemicals for purification. The efficiency of this method depends on the temperature of water, the chemical concentration and the contact time.

Another purification method called ultraviolet radiation is effective against all sorts of microorganisms and also it restores the water composition and taste.

By taking care in everyday life we can help protect the environment as well as conserve water and more importantly protect oneself from harmful health problems.
